Springport High School Varsity Choir is an elective, mixed choir made up of 9th-12th grade students. Varsity Choir presents four local concerts a year and annually performs at the Jackson Area Masterworks Choral Arts Day and the Jackson Area Choral Invitational, which are both locally-conceived events with the goal of bringing together singers from smaller schools in our area. Other events include the annual Springport Choir Boosters' Valentine Cafe and an outing to a Broadway show at a major university auditorium.
Springport High School Spartan Singers is an elective, auditioned, mixed choir made up of mostly upperclassmen. Spartan Singers contribute to all of our major local concerts, as well as our festival events. As an upper-level ensemble, Spartan Singers performs more difficult music, often a cappella, and sings at several additional Jackson-area events.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CHOIR
Springport Middle School Choir is made up of 7th and 8th grade students who are academically eligible and do not receive remediation in other areas. Middle School Choir members may elect to come in and out of choir each 9-week marking period (although most of them choose to stay if they are able). Middle School Choir presents four local concerts a year, including one holiday mini-musical - this year it's "A Charlie Brown Christmas" - and also annually attends the Jackson Area Choral Invitational. Other events include the annual Springport Choir Boosters' Valentine Cafe.
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL
Each March, the students of Springport High School present a major theatrical musical production. Past productions have included "Guys & Dolls," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Disney's Beauty and the Beast," and "Seussical! The Musical." Photos and videos from past shows are available on this website. This year we just wrapped Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka," March 24-26. As always, Springport Elementary Third Graders were included in the cast (as Oompa Loompas!).
MIDDLE SCHOOL PLAY
The Springport Middle School fall play has become a tradition for Mr. and Mrs. Hadley and the cast and crew. Open to 6th, 7th and 8th grade actors, the middle school play has been an opportunity for young students to show off their acting talents. Past productions have included "The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood," "Mystery of the Black Lagoon," "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished," and "It's All Greek to Me." (below). Photos and videos from past shows are available on this website.
Performing Arts Class
The high school Performing Arts class explores all kinds and aspects of live and recorded performance: plays, videos, commercials, puppet shows, improv, costumes, makeup, stage tech and more. The primary goal is for students to get to experience different types of performing, while learning the basic elements and history of various theatrical arts. This class is open to all high school students 9-12 and fulfills the required Fine/Applied Arts credit.
Summer Youth Theatre Camp!
This summer the Springport Choirs program offered an exciting, new experience for kids between 4th and 8th grades! From June 8 - July 9, each Monday-Thursday afternoon from 1-3pm, the SHS cafetorium became Theatre Central! Students interested in learning more about musical theatre got a chance to play a role in a super-fun show: Disney's 101 Dalmations KIDS!, which debuted Wednesday, July 8. We had a ton of fun! Hope to see you next year!
